Luxury, we all know it when we see it.

Most of my clients dream of a luxury kitchen and luxury can mean different things to each of us.

In this post I share what a luxury kitchen is, how much it can cost and six tips to transform your kitchen into a high-end luxury zone.

What is a Luxury Kitchen?

A luxury kitchen, also known as a high-end or luxe kitchen will use bespoke custom cabinetry, high end finishes such as natural stone and real timber and innovative lighting to make the most of their integration into an open space.

It can also feature smart appliances and customisation to make the most of space and functionality and creating a wow factor.

How much does a Luxury Kitchen cost?

A luxury or high-end kitchen can cost anywhere from $60,000 upwards. Cost will depend on the size, finishes, appliances and any customisation. You can read more on kitchen costs here.

This sounds like a lot of money but kitchens are designed to last. When you consider this, it is worth investing in the best you can afford when renovating your kitchen. Reality is, your kitchen will probably last longer than your next car.

The life of a kitchen is dependent on a number of factors including wear and tear, kitchen quality, kitchen style and affordability.

How to Transform Your Kitchen into a High-End Luxury Zone?

Whether you are looking to transform your existing kitchen or planning a full renovation, these six tips will help you create luxury in your kitchen.

6 must-haves to take your kitchen to the next level

1. Include an Over-sized Kitchen Island

The centrepiece of most kitchens is the island. To add luxury to your kitchen, include an expansive central island bench. Use a feature natural stone or a thicker bench top to make a real statement.

You can even have different heights to incorporate table height dining.

A large island can house appliances, more storage and serve multiple functions especially when seating is added.

2. Use Natural stone or Marble on Benchtops

When well considered, benchtops will become a central feature of your kitchen design.

Like many people, I am in love with marble at the moment. A unique surface, with veining and patterning and the fact that no two pieces of marble are ever exactly alike, makes for stunning kitchen benchtops and splashbacks. So much so that I’ve written a whole blog post on everything you need to know about using marble in your new kitchen; it’s The Best Advice you could ever get about Marble Benchtops. Whether you’re using marble or other high-end materials such as granite, limestone, quartzite, onyx, travertine, soapstone or quartz, investing in a high-quality, large kitchen island will transform your space from lacklustre to lavish and you'll be able to enjoy excellent conversation, wine, and food with friends in the hub of your home.

3. Introduce Automation

Technology is a part of our everyday lives, so why not include it as part of your kitchen renovation, not only will it make your life easier, it will add a touch of luxury.

With any addition of technology, it is important to make sure that it is installed correctly and the best time to do that is as part of your kitchen renovation.

There are so much options for smart appliances with new products being introduced every day. Everything from voice activated smart speakers, to smart fridges, smart cooktops and ovens and automated kettles – they will all help to make life easier for you and be a pleasure to use.

Consider the appliances you want and what you will use, it’s best to create a luxurious kitchen based on the best high-quality appliances you can afford.

4. Functional and Mood Lighting is a Must

I think the kitchen is the heart of a home, you spend so much time there and I find whenever we have friends visiting it is always the place we gather together.

A kitchen has to work hard and is used for so many different purposes, each with different lighting requirements. It needs to have adequate task lighting on your most used surfaces and ambient lighting when you want it to be a place where your family and friends want to gather.

To create a functional and inviting space you must have the best possible lighting. Natural light is important and under-cabinet or under-bench lighting can really transform your work surfaces and give real impact visually.

Feature lighting over an island bench is very popular and the right light fixtures can be used to add a touch of luxury and take your kitchen to the next level.

5. Include a Butler’s Pantry

Every client I’ve worked with has wanted more storage in their kitchen; it is always high on the design wish list. If you have the space, a butler’s pantry.

Whilst most people consider them a luxury, they are also extremely practical, providing the perfect place to hide everyday clutter and to keep those necessary appliances within easy reach. A creative design can usually incorporate a butler’s pantry into most spaces.

A luxury kitchen can include a second ‘working kitchen’ keeping the main kitchen as more of a feature especially in an open plan home.

6. Include Luxury Appliances

If your budget allows and especially if you love cooking or entertaining, including luxury kitchen appliances in your new kitchen is a must. Not only are they beautiful to look at, they make cooking a dream with their technological innovation and cutting-edge performance.

High-end brands like Sub-Zero, Wolf and Gaggenau, truly bring a sense of luxury to your home. Other brands like Miele and V-Zug could be the perfect choice for your kitchen and offer seamless integration with a cohesive look through their ranges and brilliant features.

Luxury kitchens feature multiple ovens including steam and pyrolytic, cooktops from gas to induction and even teppanyaki grills. Wine cabinets sit alongside integrated fridges and under kitchen benchtops and transform a kitchen into a luxurious hub of the home.

Whatever you wish for in a kitchen, it probably exists and you can even attend a demonstration to learn how to use it.

There are many reasons to renovate. Whatever your reason, think about what you want to achieve with your renovation.
