The Backstory

Nestled amongst traditional Queenslanders and large contemporary homes in a suburb of Brisbane, is a modest, yet distinct, mid-century modern home.

The much-loved home of a professional couple, it features large, low windows and interiors that have lost their way over time. Bella Vie Interiors worked with Boutique Bathrooms Brisbane to redesign the main family bathroom and give it a true sense of identity.

The bathroom design is defined by quality workmanship and a fresh, modern colour palette typical of mid-century modern interiors. The clients’ sought a design that was stylish, minimal and modern. This stylish Brisbane bathroom renovation is a beautiful example of blending the original style of home with modern Australian design.

The Brief

They wanted a more spacious bathroom that did away with the shower over bath, whilst still including both items along with adequate storage. The bathroom needed to blend their love of the mid-century modern style with clean lines and a crisp colour palette.

The clients were open to recommendations for fixtures and finishes and happy to consider structural changes if it enhanced the design. Being the only bathroom in the house it was imperative that the new layout enhanced the way it functioned for the couple and in the future, a family.

The challenges with the existing bathroom were a small footprint, and low windows, that were originally installed to suit a wheelchair bound resident. The window height limited the placement of a mirror and shower, reducing layout options. Bella Vie Interiors overcame these limitations by removing a hall cupboard to increase the floor space, and incorporating a Caroma semi-recessed basin and compact back to wall bath. Both these items allow maximum use of the floor space for more than one person to use the bathroom at any given time.

In keeping with the mid-century modern aesthetic, a duck egg blue terrazzo floor tile and hand cut wall tile, blend beautifully with the custom vanity. The vanity features Polytec Walnut Woodmatt and a Caesarstone Frozen Terra benchtop and is paired with chrome tapware. With limited space left for towel rails, Bella Vie Interiors recommended vertical Hydrotherm heated tubes. This solution allows for dry towels all year round through high summer humidity and cooler winter days.

Our Client's Feedback

Lisa at Bella Vie Interiors made my dreams a reality!

We had been looking to renovate our kitchen, en-suite and laundry for a couple of years and I knew we needed a designer to help us. I had been hesitant to move forward as I thought a designer would push their design style and not take our budget into consideration.

When I met Lisa I knew straight away that she would listen to my thoughts and ideas. She designed a kitchen that not only suited our needs but it also matched and enhanced our house (parts of which were already renovated) and it was all within our budget.

I find renovating very stressful and talking to builders can be overwhelming when unsure about all the terminology. Lisa’s extensive experience in the building industry really became evident when she met with my builder on numerous occasions and helped me to decipher what was being discussed.

I avoided making some incorrect and costly decisions as a result of her input! I am eternally grateful for Lisa’s input in every design decision we had to make.

I LOVE my new kitchen, en-suite and laundry. The flow of the kitchen has improved dramatically and I love all of the features.

We will be renovating again in the future and I will not do it without Lisa’s services in the future.
